Meena's Interview

Happened to read the interview of actress meena here at rediff. Also read Meena's complaint of ill-treatment at thatstamil.com here.

You can clearly see that Meena's ego has been badly hurt that Nayanthara overtakes her. Well one can clearly see the reason for the pain since often our beloved Sangavi has been often subdued by the directors and producers in the movie where she has acted with other heroines in the industry. Unfortunately that includes the movies where Sangavi has to share the screen space with Meena. For example Porkalam, Rishi and Ulavuthurai. Sangavi even has to go thru it till recently in the film Aanai and Indra (Kannada) with Namitha where all promos were on Namitha.

How did Sangavi respond?

  • Did she complain in media that she is ill-treated? - No
  • Did she let her ego overcome performance? - No.
  • Did she ever behave in an unprofessional manner criticizing the Directors and Producers - No.
What did Sangavi do then? She clearly let her performance speak for herself than she doing the talk. And you can clearly see that in the result. In all those films Porkalam, Rishi, Aanai and Indra (Except Ulavuthurai) Sangavi got more marks in acting than Meena OR Namitha. So whatever the promos OR media coverage may be quality definitely will be noticed. This also shows professionalism of Sangavi as an actress, her egoless character and her down-to-earth personality. Sangavi was never involved in personal fight during her career spanning 14 OR 15 years. Infact I have seen her praise her co-stars which lot of actress doesn't do.

I can only suggest Meena to learn these qualities from Sangavi and always let performance speak while controlling her ego. It's good for Meena, her career and her fans.

NOTE: Don't get this article wrong. We at sangavifans.com definitely are with Meena on the Kuselan issue. We only wish that she lets her performance speak which we think she is capable of.

A Friend in need is a friend indeed

For a while now ever since Sangavi attended Vindhya's marriage we fans came to know how close friends they are. Here is another gesture of friendship from Vindhya. Given below is the article from Chennaionline. For the original article click here. If this is true then on behalf of sangavifans.com we thank Vindhya for the nice gesture.

Actress Vindhiya, who got married recently and settled down in family life, seems to be the hot choice among the producers and directors of tele-serials who have been constantly chasing her to make her act in serials. Vindhiya, meanwhile, has been making her best possible efforts to take out from the cold storage the film 'Azhagu Nilayam', her last film before marriage, to see how it goes down with the audience.

sanghaviShe apparently wants to test the waters about her re-entry into films and has been spurning offers to act in tele-serials. In the mean time, Vindhiya decided to forward the 'offers' she was getting to another 'out-of-action' actress in Sanghavi.

Sanghavi, who had acted opposite both Ajit and Vijay in the early part of their careers, is still looking for a break. She tried her hand as an 'item' girl in a song with Raghava Lawrence and in the Dhanush-starrer 'Sullaan'. But the chances weren't forthcoming and Sanghavi has gleefully accepted the small-screen offers forwarded to her by Vindhiya.

Sangavi in Media

Got this message from one of our site's passionate reader and a Sangavi fan. Thought I would publish it. I do agree with most of his views

Introduction to this post

Last week we 2-3 fans of Sangavi got together and we have been discussing about how nagative media publicity was for Sanghavi compared to her peers. Lot of actress in the industry does get the positive media attention undeservingly. When it comes to Sanghavi the reporters of various magazines (Print OR Web) seem to portray her in nagative light in general. Of-course we are only putting together our personal opinion. We don't know how Sangavi feels about this. Also we are not saying that all print media is like this. However when such comments come from well respected magazines such as the ones below it kind of hurts.

  • Return of the Bombshell says the internet magazine behindwoods in one of their movie news announcing Sangavi's megaserial project in Kalaigner TV. Click here for the news.
  • In a recent article indicating another recent Sanghavi news BharatStundent a respected online magazine refers Sangavi as someone with immense sex appeal, actress with lusty looks etc., Click here for this news.
  • The same magazine in another related news "Sangavi stuck with star nights" refers Sangavi as voluptuous beauty with highly lusty sex appeal. Other than this comment the same article also tries to project Sangavi as a failed star with comments like "the actress in the southern circuit was not able to take off with her career" which is far from truth. Click here for this news.
  • Related to the same news as above using terms like actress with lusty sex appeal another respected website Andhravilas quotes and projects Sangavi in negative light in their article here.
C'mon guys. Wake up!!! Sangavi is more than a glamdoll as projected by you folks at media. Not only these comments are trying to portray her using physical appearance but they also put down her efforts as an actress as if she is a failed actress. This post here is aimed as a response to such articles and thereby educate such media reporters with the facts on behalf of Sangavi's fans. Of-course calling someone beautiful, sexy etc., could be a compliment. We don't deny that. Sangavi ofcourse is glamorous and beautiful. There is no-one denying that fact either. More than that here are her achievements as an actress which is ignored by-and-large by the print and web media alike.

In Tamil Movies

Amaravathy - This is the first film of the star Sangavi whom we fans revere and respect her with dignity. The role that she donned in this movie is innocent and non-glamorous. Of-course as Sangavi herself mentioned in an interview with Hindu (As given here), being a first movie she did mistakes. So does every other actress on their first films. Again our point here is this movie is not glamourous by any scale. How many actress in today's world accept their mistakes? Sangavi not only did that, but also learnt from that mistake and went on to perform better and better in her other endevours.

Rasigan - This is probably the movie that got her the "Sex symbol" tag that she is still struggling to get rid off. Her role here is glamorous yes!! But is noway vulgar compared to movies that got released before and after that. In addition to the glamour here you can see that she has expressed all emotions in this movie and acted according to what the role demanded.

Nilaavae Vaa - One of the best movies for her fans. This movie also features another actress "Suvalakshmi" who is hailed as homely actress by the media. Well I don't deny that. But just compare the acting of both Suvalakshmi and Sangavi in this movie. Sangavi portrays the role of a modern city girl. All her costumes are modern and NO WAY glamorous. From when did we start calling a girl wearing Jean / Pants / T-shirt as glamourous? Those were the costumes for Sangavi. Of-course she looked as stunning as ever in this movie. Also the role in this movie demanded her to act as a cute, bubbly, talkitive actress with a modern outlook which she did it with perfection. It's is a tougher role to play compared to the role that Suvalakshmi played in the same movie. Sangavi out-performed Suvalakshmi and won hearts by playing this role.

Porkaalam - No one will deny the fact that Cheran's "Porkaalam" is the best movie that happened to Sangavi in her career. There is no glamour here. As in the case of "Nilavae vaa" this movie also features another established heroine in Meena. Look at the reviews that came at the time of release of this movie. Every magazine in their review at that time said that Sangavi performed exceedingly well compared to Meena.

Thali kaatha Kaliamman - It's good that all the best Sangavi movies has two heroines so that easily you can compare the acting skills. This movie again features Sangavi and Kausalya. (And not to forget a veteran in Bhanupriya too). Sangavi plays the role of a "Spirit of a dead girl" with unfulfilled desires. I don't have to say anything other than what Chennaionline review said about her in the review here.

Chennaionline said - The revelation is Sanghavi. Taking her role quite seriously, Sanghavi performs creditably and looks good too.

Rishi - Again this movie had 2 heroines. Other being Meena who actually had glamour role in this movie. Compare Sangavi's performance in this movie as a blind girl Vs Meena's glamrous role here. Sangavi easily wins in acting department compared to Meena here which is again pointed out in various reviews that time.

Praising Sangavi's efforts Chennai online again says here-
Meena plays the cute pretty one, and Sanghavi gets the meaty role.

Galatta Ganapathi - A typical Mother-in-law / Daughter-in-law struggle. A usual commercial movie, but Sangavi's acting drew parellels with Jennifer Lopez at "Monster in Law". Absolutely no glamour in this movie. Excellent portrayal of the daughter-in-law character by Sanghavi.

Aanai - Has 3 heroines including Sangavi (Namitha and Keerthi Chawla as the other two). For those who has watched the original Denzel Washington starrer "Man on Fire" Sangavi played the role that "Radha Mitchell" did in the original. In the original the the roles of Namitha and Keerthi are non-existant. This shows that those characters are added just for the masala elements. Sangavi's role was that of a mature middle-aged women and portrays excellent emotions when she loses her kid in kidnapping. Outstanding performance for sure.

In Telugu Movies

Sindhooram - How can one forget the film that won her the Andhra government's Nandhi award? Sangavi performance was nothing short of stunning. Her innocent looks, girl-next-door image etc., helped her to maintain a superior performance in this film.

Seetharamaraju - Will anyone call "Revathi's" role in the film "Devar Magan" a glamorous one? You will ask "Are you running out of mind?" right? Exacly!! Sangavi dons the role of Revathi from the original. Sakshi Shivanand plays Gouthami's role in this movie. One can exactly differentiate which is the performance oriented role here. Full marks to Sangavi for doing full justice to that role here.

Aaha - One will never forget "Aaha" one of the best made motion picture in South indian cinema. Even Rajiv Menon's Kandukonden kandukonden will only be second to this. A full-fledged family oriented movies with romantic touches that spills across. Sangavi's performance was decent.

Lagna Patrika - Sangavi dons the role of a sister who takes revenge for the life of her sister. She is the only one who carries the entire movie on her shoulder. Considering that this movie is released in 2002 when heroine oriented movies are rare, sangavi performs incredibly and is the only artiste in this film who has a full length meaty role with others making occasional appearences.

Indrani - Much awaited film for her fans this year. Yet to release. But based on the previews she plays a full-length meaty role yet another time. The film for sure is riding on her shoulders from what reports indicate. Name us one actress who even after 15 years of stinct in cine industry could carry the burden of a movie in their their shoulders alone?

In Kannada Movies

Anatharu - Sangavi plays the role of Sangeetha from original "Pithamagan". Sangeetha's role was much acclaimed. Sangavi was appretiated for her role in this movie as well. But folks in media who revere Sangeetha as a performance artiste still views Sangavi as a glamdoll.

Conclusion Remarks.

The above few movies I gave are just a few example of what capable actress Sangavi is eventhough she is underrated (I wonder if it's deliberate) by media attimes. I am sure I must have left a few of her best performing movies. Films performance as such with respect to hits and collection are definitely not in the hands of actors and actresses. But this list just shows what Sangavi as an actress is capable of. On most instances I deliberately picked up the movies that involved Sangavi and other established actresses like Kausalya, Meena and Suvalakshmi because you can see that in the same movie when you rate Sangavi's performance head-to-head with the others she beats others in the competition provided she has a role to play.

While the media recogonizes and goes all praise for actresses like Meena, Kausalya and Suva, it makes me wonder if there is a deliberate attempt to label Sangavi as a glamorous artiste. There is no doubt that Meena, Kausalya, Suvalakshmi, Sangeetha et al are versatile actresses. But so is Sangavi. She is definitely on par with any of the performance oriented artistes in today's Indian cinema. She just needs a little recogonition for what she has done that's all.

Apart from those performances and acting skills she indeed is a graceful dancer too. In all her movies and stage-shows sangavi's stage performance would never get unnoticed. She is such an elegant dancer. Also tell me how many heroines today says nice things about their co-artistes without any ego? Sangavi just does that. You can see that in her hindu interview mentioned above next to her amaravathi movie review. She has all praises for Trishas and Jothikas. Such a down to earth person definitely deserves more compliments than britbracks for sure.

My analysis here would not be complete without the nice words for the media that does acknowledge Sangavi and sees her beyond glamorous artiste. Hats off to "The Hindu" and "Chennai online" for your unbiased comments.

And finally hats off to Sangavi too for the kind of entertinement she has provided to us all fans. She is the one who rightly balanced glamour and performance throughout her career. The roles she played in various movies range from glamorous to cop to self-confident women to ghost - all shows how versatile actress she is. Hats-off again and good luck for your future endeavours.
